SKF Explorer Performance Class

This bearing is a step above SKF’s standard performance bearing. The SKF Explorer Performance Class of ball bearings is in response to the ever-demanding performance requirements of modern machinery.

SKF Explorer ball bearings realized this substantial improvement in performance by optimizing the internal geometry and surface finish of all contact surfaces, redesigning the cage, combining the extremely clean and homogenous steel with a unique heat treatment and improving the quality and consistency of the balls.

NTN

With more than ninety years of manufacturing expertise in ball bearings, NTN offers one of the industry’s widest arrays of products to fit your application.

Clean, vacuum-degassed, high-carbon chromium steel that undergoes a proprietary heat treatment to reduce crack sensitivity.

High-power density that allows a smaller bearing to support higher loads. Low-weight, compact designs.
A wide range of sizes.

Bearing Types
open.jpg  Chrome Steel Bearings

Premium chrome steel bearings are made from AISI 52100 bearing steel.  This is the best combination of long life and low cost for applications that are not exposed to rusting conditions.  There is no accurate way to easily tell the difference between stainless and chrome steel bearing

open.jpg Stainless Steel Bearings

Premium 440C stainless steel bearings help reduce rust and corrosion.  Please note that hardended 440C stainless steel is considered a corrosion resistant steel and can rust under extreme conditions.   The main difference is that stainless steels have around 18% chrome content compared to around 1-2% for chrome steel.  Martensitic stainless steels such as 440C are attracted to magnets.

ceramic.jpg Hybrid Ceramic Bearings

A hybrid ceramic bearing can provide more rpm, less weight, and less drag.  Our bearings use only high quality Silicon Nitride ceramic balls.  This material is extremely tough and provides up to 3 times the life and less drag than comparable steel balls.  Hybrid ceramic bearings can use either chrome steel or stainless steel races.  Ceramic balls cannot rust.

shielded.jpg Shielded Bearings

Shielded bearings are a good choice for most normal operating conditions.  Shielded bearings are not sealed and will not prevent leakage.  Engines with shielded bearings that leak from the front usually are either worn out or not machined properly.  Replacing the shielded bearing with a sealed bearing will fix this problem.
Leave both shields in place.

sealed.jpg Sealed Bearings

Sealed bearings are a good choice if you fly or ride in dusty fields or have a problem with excessive leakage from the front of the engine. Sealed bearings come filled with either a high quality grease or oil that should last the life of the bearing.
Leave both seals in place.

-------------------------------------------------------------

You can find the bearing dimensions by using a digital caliper and measuring the following three dimensions:

Inner Diamiter     aka (Bore)
Outter Diameter  aka (Outside Diamiter)
Thickness           aka (Width)

The standard way to show the dimensions is:  ID x OD x TH

FAQ

Contact Us (FAQ):

Question: I don't see the bearing I need on your website.
Answer: We can special order it for you and give you a discount for the feedback.

Installation
 manual.jpg

Improper installation can lead to damaged bearings and premature failure.

Use a proper bearing installation tool when installing bearings.  If the bearing is going on a shaft, only apply pressure to the inner race.  If the bearing is going in a housing, only apply pressure to the outer race.  Applying pressure to the wrong race will damage the bearing and cause premature failure.
